Details of the Contract

Upon the client’s issuance of a notice to proceed, Samsung Heavy will commence construction of the facility, with an anticipated delivery date set for July 2030. This contract represents one of the biggest deals for the South Korean shipbuilder, contributing 40% to its reported revenue of 10.65 trillion won for the previous fiscal year.

While the client has not been officially named, industry insiders speculate that it is Delfin Midstream, a U.S. LNG developer. Market Position

This latest contract further solidifies Samsung Heavy Industries’ position in the global FLNG market. The company has successfully won seven out of the eleven FLNG bids it has participated in, securing a commanding market share of 64%. A representative from Samsung Heavy noted, “This order proves our dominance in the global FLNG market once again.”

Furthermore, the company aims to achieve $13.9 billion in total orders for the current year and has already booked $8.3 billion, reaching 60% of its target. This strong performance reflects the rising demand for sophisticated offshore gas extraction and processing solutions.

Behind the Headline

The securing of this major FLNG contract by Samsung Heavy Industries underscores the ongoing shift towards offshore natural gas production in response to global energy demands. With the push for cleaner energy sources, floating LNG facilities enable efficient extraction and processing directly at sea, reducing transportation costs and time. The partnership with Delfin Midstream signals a strategic alignment to leverage technological advancements in FLNG capabilities while meeting rising LNG demand. Observers should monitor the progress of the construction and eventual deployment of these units, as they may reshape the competitive landscape of offshore energy production in North America.
