Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd, in a stock-exchange filing, has clarified that it will not proceed with the Thoothukudi Shipyard Project. The company has instead been selected as the Anchor Shipyard for two proposed Greenfield Shipbuilding Industrial Clusters at Dighi, Maharashtra, and Dugarajapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, under the Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision (MAKV) 2047.

While Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders initially explored the development of a greenfield shipyard at Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, the project was shelved. The decision came after the Joint Venture company formed by a Tamil Nadu State Government entity and V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority chose a different shipyard as the Anchor Shipyard for the proposed Thoothukudi cluster.

The company’s clarification followed the appearance of a news item on www.hindubusinessline.com suggesting that the Thoothukudi Shipyard Project would not proceed.
