Update 21 Sep 2026, 22:34 UTC:
Trafigura announced the establishment of Volare Shipping Ltd., a dedicated company set to enhance its operations in the Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC) sector. This strategic move will initially involve a fleet of six VLCCs currently in operation and eight newbuild vessels scheduled for delivery between 2026 and 2028.
The Fleet Expansion
Volare Shipping’s fleet aims to capitalize on the growing demand for crude oil transportation. The eight newbuild vessels are designed to carry larger cargo volumes and incorporate advanced features such as internal tank coating and heating systems to accommodate a broader range of crude oil and refined products while adhering to international environmental standards.

Capital Market Strategies
In conjunction with its launch, Volare Shipping plans to execute a Private Placement aimed at raising approximately USD500 million, which will fund its newbuilding program. Following the Private Placement, the company anticipates listing its shares on Euronext Growth Oslo, under the ticker symbol ‘VLCC’, with trading expected to start on or around 5 October 2026, subject to regulatory approvals.
Management and Future Outlook
Under Trafigura’s management, which oversees roughly 500 vessels, including about 250 oil tankers, Volare Shipping is positioned for substantial growth. Andrea Olivi, the Global Head of Shipping at Trafigura, highlighted that the move into the VLCC segment is an opportunity to invest further in modern tonnage, which remains attractive due to supportive long-term fundamentals in crude oil transportation. Executives from Volare Shipping anticipate that its operational expertise will provide shareholders with considerable long-term value.
Behind the Headline
The launch of Volare Shipping underscores Trafigura’s commitment to reinforcing its market position within the VLCC sector amidst favorable cargo demand trends. By leveraging its established shipping infrastructure and integrating advanced vessel technology, Volare Shipping is poised to attract investor interest and capitalize on operational synergies. Observers should monitor the regulatory approval process for the stock exchange listing and the completion of the Private Placement, as these factors will critically influence the company’s growth trajectory and market capitalization in the years to come.
